The Health Action Alliance (HAA) is a partnership between leading business and public health organizations that was formed to help employers navigate evolving workplace health challenges, advance health equity and prepare for future health emergencies.
In April of 2024, HAA launched the first-of-its-kind National Commission on Climate and Workforce Health to help companies build climate-resilient workforces through new approaches for assessing risk and adapting operations to mitigate the health threats driven by increasingly extreme weather.
The National Commission on Climate and Workforce Health is comprised of a growing group of cross-sector leaders taking action to better assess the current health risks to workers and develop best practices for creating a climate-resilient workforce.
Commissioners will be responsible for guiding the Commission’s goals, strategy and development of resources, as well as serving as public ambassadors. Specifically, Commissioners will:
Inform Commission’s programs and resources:
Provide strategic guidance to ensure the Commission's programs, research and resources align with the mission and provide value to business leaders.
Commissioners may be asked to engage with the Commission Program Team if needed to provide individual consultation on a specific topic or issue.
Provide perspectives and ideas:
Based on his/her expertise and experience, offer input on current industry trends, challenges and emerging best practices.
Curate expertise:
Identify and engage other leading voices in workplace health to participate in Commission events. Support the Commission by referring at least one business leader or sponsor/funder.
Serve as ambassador:
Consider speaking with reporters and/or participating in panels or other presentation opportunities to build awareness of the Commission’s resources, recommendations, and research findings.
Advise on fundraising:
Help the Program Team identify potential sources of sponsorship to support the ongoing activities of the Commission.
The National Commission of Climate and Workforce Health provides a unique platform for each Commissioner to be recognized as a thought leader on managing the challenges of – and identifying opportunities for – building climate-resilient workforces. Participation in the Commission is voluntary and will be guided by the following commitments:
Term
Commissioners are invited to serve a term from sign-on day through March 2026.
Meetings
The Commission will convene once a quarter. Three of those convenings will be virtual, and one will be in person. Attendance by yourself or a proxy is expected at all quarterly meetings. Between quarterly meetings, there may be an occasional need to seek individual input or to hold a special one-off meeting. We ask that you make your best effort to be as engaged as possible.
Visibility
Commissioners agree to have their names included in public documents as a member providing strategic input and guidance to the Commission.
Proxy
We request that you identify a colleague ready to step in for you at commission meetings or support other obligations as necessary. As you think about who you will designate as your proxy, we encourage you to consider colleagues who have the bandwidth and expertise necessary to engage with you and with the Program Team.
Replacement
Should you leave your company or transition internally to a role where your participation on the Commission is no longer a good fit, you may nominate a colleague at your company as your replacement. The Program Team will work with commissioners who leave their company to discuss a transition.
