The Health Action Alliance (HAA) is a partnership between leading businesses and public health organizations that was formed to help employers navigate evolving workplace health challenges, advance health equity, and prepare for future health emergencies.
In 2024, HAA plans to launch the first-of-its-kind National Commission on Climate and Workforce Health with a mission to help organizations build climate-resilient workforces through new approaches for assessing risk and adapting operations to mitigate the risks of a changing climate.
The Commission will be comprised of executives across industry sectors and various functional areas who are leaders in protecting and enhancing employee health and safety. In addition, the Commission will be supported by a group of Advisors across specific areas of expertise in business operations, science, medicine and public health.
Commission Advisors will be asked to help provide input on the Commission’s goals, strategy, and development of resources. Specifically, Advisors will:
Inform Commission’s programs and resources:
Provide strategic guidance to ensure that the Commission’s programs and resources align with the mission and provide content that is current and accurate.
Provide perspectives and ideas:
Based on their expertise and experience, offer input on current trends, challenges and emerging best practices related to their area of expertise.
Curate expertise:
Identify and engage other leading experts to provide input and/or participate in Commission events.
Offer periodic consultation:
Engage with the Program Working Team of the Commission if needed to provide guidance on a specific topic or issue.
Participate in Advisory Committee meetings:
As relevant to their expertise, Advisors will participate in group working sessions or meetings to help advance the Commission’s work.
The National Commission of Climate and Workforce Health provides a unique platform to advance thought leadership on helping business leaders manage the challenges of – and identifying opportunities for – building climate-resilient workforces. Advisors will be critical to the success of the Commission.
Serving as an Advisor to the Commission is voluntary and will be guided by the following commitments:
Term
Advisors will be invited to serve a two-year term, beginning as early as March 2024. However, there is an opportunity to extend the term given mutual agreement between the Advisor and the Commission leadership.
Meetings of the Commission
In addition to a kickoff meeting in March 2024 and a public launch event in June 2024, the full Commission will convene quarterly in 2024 and 2025. Advisors may be invited to attend the quarterly meetings.
Advisory Committee Meetings
Advisors may be engaged to provide input as needed across the duration of their term. In addition, the Program Working Team for the Commission plans to establish separate Advisory Committees on specific topics as an organizing mechanism for the Commission’s work.
Advisory Committees will be composed of a small number of Advisors. In addition, Commissioners who have expertise or input on the specific topic will be invited to participate. The Program Working Team will be collaborating with Commission Members to determine the optimal committee structure and focus areas.
Replacement
Should an Advisor determine that they need to discontinue working with the Commission before the term is complete, we request that the Advisor help identify a replacement.
