Business Action on Childhood Vaccinations

Mobilizing Corporate Leadership to Protect the Health of Children, Support Working Parents, Keep Schools Open and Reduce Employee Absenteeism

Working parents have faced some of the greatest challenges during the pandemic.

Women, communities of color and lower income families have especially borne the brunt.

With COVID-19 vaccines now authorized for children ages 6 months and older, there’s a renewed opportunity to strengthen our immunity and turn the tide against COVID-19.

Health Action Alliance has joined with the American Academy of Pediatrics, Business Roundtable and more than two dozen other national business and public health organizations to encourage employers to support working parents who choose to vaccinate their children.

From providing paid time off for working parents to attend vaccine appointments with their children and recover from side effects, to hosting family vaccine clinics, employers can help protect the health of our children, support continued in-person schooling and help employees get back to work.

At Johnson & Johnson, Our Credo guides the way we put the needs and well-being of the people we serve first, including our employees and their families. As we work tirelessly in the fight against COVID-19, we’re honored to partner with Health Action Alliance on their Business Action to Support Childhood Vaccination to empower working families to protect themselves and live healthier lives. In a reflection of that commitment, we’re proud to be able to offer on-site vaccination clinics for employees and their families.

Peter Fasolo, Ph.D., Executive Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer

Throughout the pandemic, our people’s wellbeing has remained our #1 priority, and we’ve been committed to providing whatever additional resources they need to continue feeling invested in and cared for. This includes unlimited paid time off for vaccine appointments and well visits for themselves and for those they care for, and we’re looking forward to hosting on-site workplace vaccination clinics for employees and their families when our offices reopen in the fall.

Karen Kaplan, CEO

The safety and wellbeing of our team members – and their families – is our priority. That’s why we’ve offered additional global crisis sick leave since the beginning of the pandemic, which gives team members additional time off to quarantine, to recover from illness, to care for loved ones and to get their families vaccinated. All of our decisions as a company are informed by data and science, so we encourage our teams and their eligible family members to get vaccinated, where vaccines are available.

Jenn Saavedra, Chief Human Resources Officer

Vaccines continue to be our best hope of beating the pandemic. To ensure that we keep doing our part to move forward on the road to recovery, we are providing additional paid time off for our employees with children to be able to attend vaccine appointments, care for children recovering from vaccine side-effects, and to catch up on general doctor’s office visits that may have been postponed during the past year.

Nikki Krishnamurthy, SVP, Chief People Officer

As we return to our offices and collaborative work environments, our priority is our team's physical, mental and emotional well-being. We're encouraging our employees to use flex time and/or paid leave to get vaccinated, take their kids to get vaccinated, and recover afterward if needed. We are working together to define the culture we are returning to, including support for physical health, psychological safety and a commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.

Eric Friedenwald-Fishman, Creative Director/Founder

We are committed to educating associates and family members on the importance of COVID-19 and childhood vaccinations. We provide support through onsite vaccination clinics, flexible time allowances to take care of vaccination needs, and information to increase awareness and remove barriers to accessing these vital preventative health measures.

GINGER MILLER, HEALTH PROMOTION MANAGER

Working parents need to know their children are safe and healthy before returning to their workplaces. Providing parents with the resources they need to protect their children against Covid-19 is critical to ending this pandemic and returning safely back to school and work.

Richard Wahlquist, President and CEO

Vaccines are one of the most important tools we have to protect our children from vaccine preventable diseases such as chickenpox, measles and the flu; we are fortunate to now have a safe and effective vaccine for children age 12 and older to prevent severe disease from COVID-19. Businesses can assist their employees and their families by providing health insurance coverage as well as paid time off to receive needed care like vaccines. They can also ensure employees are well informed about the importance of helping their kids to remain healthy and reinforcing that their child’s pediatrician or other health care provider is a great source for information about vaccinations.
